How the anagram solver works

An anagram solver finds every valid word that uses exactly the letters you enter — all of them, each used once. Type 3 to 16 letters above and the solver rearranges them into real words, checking each against the dictionary.

Tips for solving anagrams faster

When you're working an anagram by hand — on a puzzle, a game tile rack, or a daily brain teaser — a few techniques make the answer jump out much sooner. The first is to separate vowels from consonants. Most English words alternate between the two in predictable ways, so laying out your vowels (A, E, I, O, U) apart from the rest shows you roughly how many syllables you're working with and where they can sit.

Next, look for common beginnings and endings hiding in your letters. Familiar prefixes like RE-, UN-, IN-, and DIS- and endings like -ING, -ED, -ER, -EST, -TION, and -LY let you lock several letters in place at once, leaving a much smaller core to rearrange. Pairs that almost always travel together — TH, CH, SH, QU, ST, BR — are worth spotting early too.

Finally, remember the difference between an anagram and an everyday word search: an anagram must use every letter exactly once, so the answer is always the same length as your input. If no full-length word exists for an awkward set of letters, that's normal — not every combination forms one. When that happens, switch to the Word Unscrambler, which also returns shorter sub-words you can still play.

Frequently asked questions
